The Power of a Clean Home During a Difficult Time
At Cleaner Living, we believe a clean home is more than just a luxury—it’s essential for health, well-being, and peace of mind. For individuals battling cancer in Central Oregon, maintaining a clean home can feel impossible. That’s why we are proud partners of Cleaning for a Reason (CFAR), a nonprofit that provides free home cleaning services to cancer patients.
We had the privilege of speaking with Jenn Montoya, a breast cancer survivor who received CFAR services in 2020.
Jenn’s Story: A Life-Changing Gift
Navigating Cancer Treatment and Daily Life
Jenn Montoya was diagnosed with breast cancer in June 2020, and by September, she underwent a mastectomy.“It was a tough time,” Jenn recalls. “It was smoky outside from wildfires, we were in the middle of COVID, and I was just trying to recover.”
At home, life didn’t slow down. Jenn and her husband were caring for their two boys, ages 13 and 8, plus a new beagle puppy—all while she was healing from surgery.
“You just don’t have the energy,” she said. “After my mastectomy, I couldn’t lift anything. I don’t know if anyone else is like this, but when I’m sick and the house isn’t clean, it drives me crazy.”
Finding Cleaning for a Reason at Just the Right Time
Jenn first learned about CFAR through the cancer resource center at St. Charles or possibly from Rev. Kathy Young, leader of the Cancer with Compassion group.
“When I heard about it, I thought, ‘Oh my God, yes please!’” Jenn said. “Luckily, I didn’t have to do chemo, but I don’t know how people keep up when they do. For women going through that, it would be an incredible blessing.”
With her husband’s business at its busiest and her kids adjusting to school again, professional cleaning relieved a huge burden.
The Comfort of a Clean, Safe Space
“The cleaners were so sweet,” Jenn shared. “They knew what was happening, and they were so empathetic, kind, and thoughtful. I was in bed, and they were cleaning around me—so intuitive and respectful.”
One moment stood out to Jenn:
“Erica, the cleaner, even said, ‘I’ll keep you in my prayers.’ It was super sweet.”
After surgery, Jenn needed a sterile environment, especially in areas like her bathroom and shower.
“It was such a blessing to have the shower thoroughly cleaned,” she said.
Since cancer patients must avoid toxins, it was reassuring to know the products used in her home were non-toxic and safe for recovery.

How Often We Provide Cleaning For a Reason Services
Elizabeth Buchanana, Cleaner Living owner, shares: “We offer Cleaning for a Reason services multiple times a month. We’re here to let cancer patients know they’re not alone.”
Why Cleaner Living Supports Cleaning For a Reason
Cleaner Living is dedicated to using Nurturals safe, eco-friendly cleaning products, which is especially important for people undergoing cancer treatment.
“What I love about our company is that we use truly clean products,” Elizabeth said. “A lot of other ‘clean’ products still have synthetic fragrances, which can be harmful to breathe in.”
Our mission goes beyond cleaning—we want to provide comfort, care, and a sense of relief to those going through one of the toughest times of their lives.
